The TAS ECT test is designed for monitoring the anticoagulant effects of the antithrombin drug PEG-hirudin in citrated whole blood or plasma. Hirudin is being used in clinical trials for the treatment of unstable angina, acute myocardial infarction, cardiac catheterization, hemodialysis and percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA).
The LHMT is intended to monitor the effects of low to moderate concentrations of heparin (0.25 to 3.0 U/mL) on coagulation. The LHMT is designed to accurately monitor the effect of concentrations of unfractionated heparin above the range of aPTT but below that of HMT. These levels of heparin are typically used in procedures such as hemodialysis, Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) and interventional cardiac procedures like PTCA.
