Announces Reflection for the Web, Unisys Edition
Attachmate
Corp. has announced the availability of Reflection
for the Web, Unisys Edition, terminal emulation software
that securely connects browser users to applications
running on Unisys, IBM, HP, Unix and OpenVMS hosts.
Offering strong authentication and encryption capabilities,
Reflection for the Web, Unisys Edition allows for
the safe delivery of full-functioning host applications
across the public Internet.
“There
are three key elements to this release,” Barbara
Ballard, product manager for Unisys and Airlines Products,
Attachmate, told 5 Minute Briefing. “One is
the fact that it is thin client technology and the
reason that is important is because that is a no-touch
desktop,” noting this represents a benefit to
IT staff. “It is an applet deployed from a server
so an end-user clicks on the URL and they connect
to their host,” said Ballard. Another key element
is its ease of use for end-users. “Because it
is a thin client it is geared to an end-user just
getting business done. Simple tool bars, simple macros,
ease of use through navigating screens, not a complex
UI, very easy to configure.”
And
the third key element of the release and most competitive
feature in the market today is its security components,
said Ballard. In addition to strong authentication
and encryption capabilities, it includes a Security
Proxy Server with Secure Token Authorization. This
unique, patent-pending feature provides an extra layer
of protection for connections to legacy host applications,
allowing the integration of hosts into modern security
infrastructures, according to the vendor.
The
launch of Reflection for the Web, Unisys Edition is
intended to enable users to meet regulatory requirements,
such as Payment Card Industry (PCI), Sarbanes-Oxley,
Gramm-Leach-Bliley, FIPS, HIPAA and European Data
Directive; authenticate users via Directory
Services, X.509 smart cards, Kerberos, and CA Siteminder;
provide standards-based security for business applications
and file transfers; support existing Public Key Infrastructure
(PKI), including X.509 certificates, Online Certificate
Status Protocol (OCSP), and Certificate Revocation
Lists (CRL); provide secure access via all major Web
browsers, including Internet Explorer, Netscape, Opera,
Mozilla Firefox and Safari; and simplify legacy host
application sign-on for easy user access and password
management. The release also enables users to integrate
host applications with IBM, BEA and CA SiteMinder
portals.

OpenLogic and Unisys Team to Extend
Support, Governance and Management of Open Source
Software
OpenLogic,
a provider of enterprise open source software solutions,
has announced that Unisys Corp., has selected OpenLogic
to provide its Certified Library of open source and
governance tools for Unisys and its customers. This
alliance enables OpenLogic and Unisys to work together
in various ways to help enterprises ltake advantage
of the benefits of open source while reducing risks.
“Unisys' number-two strategic initiative in
the entire company is around open source. They have
really moved their company in that direction,”
Steve Grandchamp, CEO of OpenLogic, told 5 Minute
Briefing.
Unisys
will leverage OpenLogic's Certified Library, containing
more than 300 pre-certified open source packages,
to complement its own resources in providing enterprise-ready
open source to its customers. OpenLogic will provide
enterprise-grade support on packages not directly
supported by Unisys and will also provide Unisys with
access to the OpenLogic Expert Community.
Observing
that “Unisys launched a stack about a year ago
called OASIS [Open and Secure Integration Solutions],”
Grandchamp said their customers have a lot of the
same characteristics that OpenLogic sees in the market
overall. That is that is the adoption of open source
is growing significantly and, as that adoption grows,
the number of open source projects and products that
their customers are using is “beyond the scope
of the initial open source products that Unisys had
in the OASIS stack and the relationships that they
had with some of the open source vendors,” he
said.
“We
are able to provide some of the things that Unisys
is not, in terms of backstopping them on support with
our expert community, our 42-point certification process
of all the software that is in our library, the update
services, the indemnity services and the governance
tools. There is a lot of additional value-add around
the open source OASIS stack and a lot of the deep
open source consulting services and 24x7 mission-critical
global support operation that Unisys has been able
to put in place, so the two of them dovetail nicely.”
